Mount Meru, located in Tanzania, is a challenging yet rewarding trek for adventurous hikers and climbers.
Arrival: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha/Moshi.Orientation: Meet your trekking team and review the itinerary. You will also have a chance to rent any gear if needed.Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
Transfer to Momella Gate (approximately 1 hour). - Complete park registration and permits.- Afternoon: - Start your trek from Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut (about 10 km, 4-5 hours). - Enjoy the stunning views of Mount Meru and the surrounding landscape. - Look out for wildlife like elephants, buffaloes, and various birds.- Evening: - Arrive at Miriakamba Hut, settle in, and have dinner. - Spend the night at the hut, resting for the next day’s ascent.
- Morning: - After breakfast, leave Miriakamba Hut for Saddle Hut (approximately 8 km, 3-4 hours). - The trail ascends steadily through a mix of dense forests and open moorland.- Afternoon: - Arrive at Saddle Hut; have lunch and rest. - Optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m) for stunning panoramic views, then return to the hut.- Evening: - Dinner at the hut. - Prepare for an early start the following day, packing necessary gear, and trying to get a good night’s sleep.
Early Morning: - Wake up around 1:00 AM for a pre-dawn start. - Begin the ascent to the summit (Uhuru Peak) via the crater rim (approximately 6-8 hours). - The trail can be steep and requires headlamps for visibility.- At the Summit: - Reach Uhuru Peak (4,566 m) around sunrise (weather permitting). - Enjoy spectacular views over Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscapes.- Morning: - Begin the descent back to Saddle Hut (approximately 3-4 hours).- Afternoon: - Have lunch at Saddle Hut, then rest.- Evening: - Dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.
Morning: - After breakfast, descend from Saddle Hut to Miriakamba Hut (approximately 3-4 hours).- Afternoon: - Continue from Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate (approximately 2-3 hours). - Complete your trek and sign out of the park. - Return to Arusha for a celebration dinner and to share experiences.- Departure: - Depending on your travel plans, you can spend the night in Arusha or transfer to the airport for your departure.
