The Lemosho route is one of the most scenic and least crowded routes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
A 8-day itinerary allows for proper acclimatization and a higher chance of reaching the summit.
Arrival: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha/Moshi.Orientation: Meet your trekking team and review the itinerary. You will also have a chance to rent any gear if needed.Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
Drive to Lemosho Gate:After breakfast, drive to the Lemosho trailhead (about 2-3 hours).Hike to Mti Mkubwa Camp: Begin the trek through lush rainforests, where you may spot various wildlife. The hike takes approximately 3-4 hours. Altitude: 2,650 meters (8,694feet)Camping: Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp).
Hiking: Depart after breakfast and trek for about 5-6 hours. The trail opens up as you gain elevation, providing stunning views of the mountain.Altitude:3,500 meters (11,483 feet)Camping: Shira Camp 1 (near Shira Plateau).
Hiking: A relatively easy hike today, taking about 4-5 hours. It offers great views of Kibo Peak and the Shira Plateau.Exploration: Option to explore the Shira cave or take a hike up to Shira Cathedral for acclimatization.Altitude: 3,840 meters (12,535 feet)Camping: Shira Camp 2.
Hiking: Depart early and follow the path to the Lava Tower (about 4-5 hours). After reaching the Lava Tower, descend down to Barranco Camp (around 3 hours).Altitude: 3,900 meters (12,795 feet) at Lava Tower and 3,950 meters (12,959 feet) at Barranco Camp. This day helps with acclimatization.Camping: Barranco Camp.
Hiking: After breakfast, tackle the Barranco Wall, a fun and scenic climb (2-3 hours). Then continue to Karanga Camp (approximately 2-3 hours more).Altitude: 4,000 meters (13,123 feet)Camping: Karanga Camp.
Hiking:On this day, trek from Karanga to Barafu Camp (3-4 hours). Here, you will prepare for the final summit push.Rest:Take the afternoon to rest and hydrate. Briefing about the summit attempt at night.Altitude: 4,600 meters (15,091 feet)Camping: Barafu Camp.
Summit Attempt: Depart around midnight to start your ascent to Uhuru Peak (about 6-8 hours to the summit).Sunrise at Uhuru Peak: Celebrate reaching the summit at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet).Descent: After summiting, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short break and then continue down to Mweka Camp (3-4 hours).Altitude: Mweka Camp is at 3,100 meters (10,171 feet).Camping: Mweka Camp.
Final Descent: Trek from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (about 3-4 hours). Sign the register and receive your summit certificate.Transfer: Drive back to Moshi for a celebratory meal and relaxation.Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi/Arusha
Depart: Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy your last moments in Moshi before heading to the airport for departure.
